Angkor Temples Exploration

After a leisurely breakfast we will depart for a visit to the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom—last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the stunning Bayon temple. This 12th century masterpiece lies at the very center of Angkor Thom and is an archaeological wonder of symmetry and grandeur.

Continue your morning exploration with a visit to Ta Prohm, the temple that has been left largely in its natural state since its “re-discovery” by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees, which envelop the stone like tentacles. It is one of the largest temples at Angkor, dedicated in 1186. Lunch at local Restaurant.

The end of day, before return back to the hotel you will have some time to visit the War Museum, a unique collection of weaponry, mostly located outside below a mango tree plantation. The collection was gathered since 1999 from areas where fighting took place; like Anlong Veng, Siem Reap and Odor Meanchey. It is a mix of Chinese, U.S. and Soviet hardware, but mostly Russian tanks and assault weapons. Some of these weapons have even seen action during World War II. We return to town along another road and visit the contemporary temple of Wat Thmei.
